To meet the changing needs across a network of 50 ports on Scotland’s west coast and Hebridean Islands many supporting lifeline connections to isolated communities BP&L were appointed to conduct a strategic review.

The initial task was to meet the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code, and modernise and improve management system for both ferry and other harbour trades. The client primary port operations were their own ferry operations but varying levels of 3rd party uses including support for fishing industry, general cargo, and cruise business was also an important factor for the local communities.

BP&L developed a revised port management structure with greater focus on safety and third party operations. This included recruiting a head of Harbours Manager to lead the new arrangement.

In addition to the core study an analysis of potential port acquisition targets was developed.
